We had to do the same thing, Our Red Tailed Black Cockatoo let himself out of his cage. He flew around the neighborhood for a few hours, then he sat on a pole out the front of our house, we kept calling him, but he wouldn't come down. We finally tried ignoring him (he hates it when you ignore him), we turned our backs to him and started walking inside, this was too much for him, and he flew straight down and landed on my husband's shoulder, then he turned and said "Are you OK?"
